Powerlifting is a sport that counts more than sixty years of existence in the global sport events. It is a sport that started in America and was used as an adjunct for their muscular strengthening. It quickly became famous through the thousands of athletes. This is how the first races began, setting the first records in the three movements of powerlifting (squat, bench press, deadlift).  In Greece, the sport has been growing for almost 20 years, with even more intensive development in the last six years. In 2018 a small group of people, being active athletes with great competition experience, wanted to further develop the sport of powerlifting in the country, they decided to create the Greek Powerlifting League (GPL).  The GPL represents the International Powerlifting League (IPL), which is based in America and represented in most countries around the world. It is a international organization, which was founded by old athletes who loved the sport of powerlifting, too and wanted to develop it even more. Similarly, the GPL team is trying to spread powerlifting in the country by showing its love and respect for the sport itself, the athletes and sports in general.
